Background

Two sisters created Bombay Duck with the aim of selling exciting home interiors products and accessories with exuberant style and quirky design. With more than one thousand exclusive designs and stockists from London to New York, it values creativity and inspiration, drawing from a patchwork world of people, colour and places.

Challenge

Our key challenge was to capture the quirky, creative and international feel of the brand for a new website. It needed to work as a retail sales site to attract new customers, but also as a wholesale site to service a worldwide network of stockists.

Solution

Two sites in one. A powerful, consumer led B2C e-commerce website and an integrated B2B wholesale site, complete with wholesale user journey, checkout process and discount structure. This two-site-in-one solution gives consumers and stockists access to one unified Bombay Duck experience in one branded location.

Our design inspiration came from the sense that Bombay Duck combines the best of British design and Indian exuberance. It’s a place where traditional motifs from both cultures are combined, mixed up and re-interpreted in an uninhibited way. That’s why the background of the site is a classic English wallpaper design that incorporates the bummalo fish. Double Decker buses vie with religious trinkets, and images of rows of buttons and Indian-styled decorative motifs all collide to create a sense of joyful, stylish chaos.

But despite the quirky, creative appearances, we’ve carefully designed the site to meet best-practise standards. We’ve considered every user journey in order to take the customer through a large product catalogue as simply and efficiently as possible.

Results

Initial results are highly encouraging, resulting in both positive feedback and increased sales.

Testimonial

"Paul Lewis Design approached our project with the type of professionalism and enthusiasm that you would expect. They understood our brief and effectively interpreted it resulting in a unique design and set of templates in line with our brand. Throughout the project their attitude was conducive to producing the finished product - we have a design that we are very happy with and more importantly, we have received lots of positive feedback from our customers. They also gave us best practice advice regarding the design of our website. In particular they added significant valued input to the site navigation and product detail pages. They had experience working with e-commerce platforms with specific design requirements and were able to meet these. We found PLD to be flexible and helpful in their approach. They were committed to our project and they went the extra mile to ensure we got the results we wanted. Our new website has recently launched and so far the results and customer feedback and sales are very encouraging."
